About Sassy Coop

Sassy Coop is a small team that builds free tools and plain-English guides for backyard chicken keepers. Our calculators handle the counting and the calendar math (when will my eggs hatch, how big should my coop be, how much feed do I need) and our guides explain the why behind the numbers.

Where our facts come from

We don't rely on folklore or forum threads. Every incubation period, temperature, humidity and feed figure on this site is checked against university extension services, such as Mississippi State, Texas A&M AgriLife, University of Minnesota, Utah State and University of Illinois Extension, or national poultry organizations. We link the source next to the figure, and when good sources disagree we show the range and say so.

Our editorial policy explains the whole process, including how to report a mistake.

What we believe

  • Accuracy comes first. A cute tool that gives the wrong lockdown day is worse than no tool at all.
  • Plain English wins. You shouldn't need a poultry science degree to read a hatching chart.
  • Chickens are family. Plenty of our readers name every hen, and we write for them.

Reviewed by

We're inviting poultry veterinarians and extension specialists to review our tools and guides. When someone signs on, their name and credentials will appear here and on the pages they review. Until then, every figure links to its published source so you can check it yourself.

How Sassy Coop is funded

The tools and guides are free. We sell our own chicken-lover apparel in the Sassy Coop Collection, and our email list tells subscribers about new designs from time to time. Products never change the facts we publish.
